Proud to start my first grand tour
I am extremely excited and happy to announce that I will definitely be riding the Giro d'Italia this month. The 3 week stage race is definitely going to test me and also once I finish the race, I will be a different rider. They say that a grand tour changes your body and your perception afterwards and is a big stepping stone in a rider's career. I am very thankful and happy to be a part of GreenEDGE and look forward to this upcoming month.

Our main goal will be to go for stage wins and we'll assist our sprinter Matt Goss as best we can to achieve our goals. There are a few opportunities this year and I definitely think we have a good chance of winning a stage or two. Our final roster is Matt Goss, Brett Lancaster , Jack Bobridge, Jens Keukeleure, Tomas Vaitkus, Svein Tuft, Christian Meier, Fummy Beppu and yours truly. We have a great team for the sprints and especially the team time trial.

The race starts with a prologue in Denmark where we will have 3 days of racing before heading down to Italy for a rest day and finally start the team time trial. Its weird to have a rest day after only 3 days of racing, its more of a travel day than anything else. I leave on Wednesday 2 May to meet up with the rest of the team in Denmark where we will do some final team drills to perfect the team time trial and finally get the racing underway.

My goals are obviously to try win the team's time trial and focus on one or two stages where a mass sprint is not expected or even look for options in the breakaways. Our first priority is to help Matt Goss and do whats best for GreenEDGE.

I hope I can keep you updated and bring GOOD news, have a look on www.bicycling.co.za for my blog as well.
